Born
in Scandinavia, in the north country of Finland, Sari Rouhento enjoyed
a childhood of winter magic and the "nightless nights" of
Midsummer. Introduced to various forms of traditional craftsmanship
by her grandparents, Ms. Rouhento was involved in numerous craft styles
from an early age. She also developed an interest in photographing nature,
cityscapes and people.
The adventurous
teenager traveled around Europe and Northern Africa, documenting life
through photography. She spent time in Paris, where art floated in the
air. Ms. Rouhento traveled throughout the world, studying all forms
of art while exploring her creativity. As she landed in New York in
the early 90's her creative edge and success as an artist took off.
At the time she concentrated in photography and sculpture.
Ms. Rouhento
is a successful bicontinental artist based out of Santa Fe,
New Mexico. After extensive work in other creative arts, she has
found her passion in the making of large format pastel paintings,
with her signature blend of gestural abstraction. This multi-faceted
artist is also experienced in film, dance and performance arts. Her
experience in film enables her to direct, film and edit. In addition
to her busy schedule, Ms. Rouhento is also a songwriter.
Ms. Rouhento's
training in Europe and America as well as her wealth of experience and
background in both performance and tangible arts has catapulted her
into a level of art that is mesmerizing. She has combined rigorous craftsmanship
from her roots with the freedom to abstract, which she has developed
through her education and travels. She works with line and color, successfully
portraying the human spirit and emotion.
